Green tea antioxidant, called catechins- may selectively inhibit the growth of cancer

There is an antioxidant known as EGCG which demonstrates impressive activity against many kinds of cancer whilst also appearing to protect the heart and arteries from oxidative stress.

Scientists have now discovered that chemicals in the tea also shut down a key molecule which can play a significant role in the development of cancer.

If you are really serious about fighting the free radical battle, then you cannot ignore green tea antioxidant properties. It's been around for a very long time, approximately 4000 years treating a wide variety of ailments.

The Chinese have been well aware of the benefits of the green stuff for many centuries. They also believe green tea is an effective remedy for....

Green Tea has had a lot of good press and the science view is encouraging too (although not conclusive).

So I think it's fair to say that green tea is very good for you indeed, a great piece of advice to you is try and introduce it into your life....quickly!

SIDEBAR. Green tea contains caffeine, albeit much lower than coffee and other teas, you decide if you want that in your body. But the benefits seem to greatly outweigh the side effects of caffeine. Your choice.

How Much Green Tea Antioxidant Can You Drink?

A lot of conflicting suggestions (as usual) here. Some gurus say 10 cups a day and others say 2 to 3 cups daily. I have researched this thoroughly and the general opinion is you should aim for 2 to 3 cups a day.

But how do you brew the perfect cup of green tea?

Easy, well sort of! There are lots of variations on this but here is a general guide. Some important points. Don't overbrew and follow manufacturers instructions for each variety.

Use one tea bag, or 3-4 grams of tea per cup. Fill and boil kettle with fresh cold water. Let boiled kettle stand for 2-3 minutes.

Pour heated water over the tea bag or tea and leave to brew for up to 3 minutes. If you are using a tea bag then take it out. Let your cuppa stand and cool for 3 more minutes. Sip very slowly and enjoy.
