Ellagic Acid Found In Raspberries.....Could This Powerful Antioxidant Be A Breakthrough In Cancer Prevention?

What does ellagic acid have to do with antioxidants?

Well it's a natural compound found in high amounts in the leaves and seeds of pomegranates, strawberries, raspberries, and other plant foods.

It provides plants with the natural defences they must have to fight off harmful chemicals in the environment and infectious bugs.

What does it do?

It is effective against numerous cancer causing chemicals and is is being hailed as a potential breakthrough in cancer prevention.

Ellagic-acid is a very powerful antioxidant that can bind to cancer-causing chemicals and neutralize them, making them harmless.

There have been many scientific studies on the power of this natural compound (especially on rats) relating to disease fighting, and so far, results are very encouraging.

There are thousands of different chemicals involved with cancer development. One that we should be aware of is called casein kinase 2, otherwise known as CK2.

Why?

Because it is found in many tissues in your body and in normal circumstances is not a big threat. But, if it is activated, then your chances of developing cancer are very much increased. Worrying to say the least.

However, great news......ellagic-acid has been found to completely block the action of CK2....even when it has been activated. In fact, currently, ellagic-acid is the most potent known CK2 inhibitor.

Ellagic acid from red raspberries prevents destruction of the P53 gene by cancer cells. P53 is regarded as the safeguard of mutagenic activity in cervical cells.

Healthy cells in our body have a normal life cycle of about 120 days before they die...and are then replaced by our body with healthy cells, and so on. It's a natural process called apoptosis (natural cell death). But cancer cells do not die, no, they just keep on happily multiplying instead.

Ellagic-acid to the rescue..it encourages apoptosis in the cancer cells...without damaging the healthy cells.

This is fantastic news, because, as we know, conventional cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, cause the death of not only the cancer cells but also the healthy cells indiscriminately too, which, in turn, screws up our poor old immune system.

Have we finished? Not yet....there are more ellagic acid health benefits.

Not only is it a great cancer fighter but it is also known to help slow down the process of skin aging.

It is done by maintaining the elasticity of the skin by stopping the breakdown of skin fibres that naturally occurs with age.

Attention all you women going through the menopause....ellagic acid can be an effective alternative to HRT.

How?

By regulating the levels of the hormone oestrogen. Because, declining levels can cause all sorts of problems like hot flushes and a low sex drive to name a few.

And it can also be beneficial and help with prostate in men too.

Types Of Foods

So, what foods do you need to you need to eat? Well, ellagic-acid is found in the following foods...
  • Raspberries
  • Strawberries
  • Pomegranates
  • Raspberry Seed Extract
  • Raspberry Leaves
  • Grapes

Interestingly, the highest levels of it are actually found freeze-dried berries.

Supplements...How Much Do You Take?

Recommended dosage for E.A. is 1 gram tablet four times a day. This is equivalent of one cupful of fresh red raspberries a day (40mg of pure ellagic acid).

I must point out that if you take an ellagic supplement product, please be aware that they are not a treatment for cancer, not a treatment for cancer, they are only to be used as a preventative measure for the disease. So far, it's ability to treat established cancer has not been proved yet.
