The Melumber...Tasting Like A Cross Between Melon and Cucumber Enter The New Superfruit

melumber, pepino antioxidant superfruit

The Melumber...Yes That's Right The New Superfruit.

I bet you have never heard of this one before? It tastes like a cross between a melon and a cucumber. Probably not the most exciting taste in the world, however it the latest healthy superfruit...and a pricey one at that.

It is purple-striped, a relative of the tomato and is grown in South America. Claims of it's great health benefits meant it sold out within hours here in the UK. It currently sells for £5 ($10) so it's certainly not cheap.

It is known as the pepino, and is a sort of 'vegefruit'. The seeded fruit is shaped like a melon and grows to the size of a goose egg. Eat it as a pudding or appetiser.

The Japanese have gone crazy for it, even to the point where it's price has outstripped that of meat. However it has rarely been seen in Europe.

So, just how healthy is it?

Well, pepinos have a high potassium content helping to lower your blood pressure. Dieters will love it too as a 100g serving contains only 23 calories.

Here is the antioxidants bit...the mel-umber is packed with vitamins A,B and C ...all of which help to protect against cancer and heart disease.

So, next time you are in the supermarkets, and you have a few bucks to spare, then check out the pepino or mel-umber.

How about the Super Tomato?
