What is the Black Garlic benefit?
Have you ever snacked on raw garlic? Ok, that could be considered as rather extreme, as well as anti-social too. A lot of people who know the health benefits of garlic have done just that. Well, here comes the good news..you can now happily munch away with impunity. Drum roll...enter Black Garlic!
So, what is black garlic?
It is a fermented version of
normal garlic.
In fact the whole process (under high heat) is about a month long and involves placing white garlic on rotating trays in a machine that manages temperature and humidity.
The result?
No bad breath..hooray! It still retains all the superfood qualities and properties as the usual variety of garlic and contains ten times the antioxidants..yes ten times!
Well, it is much less pungent, which makes it excellent as a snack (without you losing any friends!). It has a sweet and sour flavor...similar to fruit, making it much more different to standard garlic bulbs. It's also great for cooking too, and will make a 'mean' garlic sauce.
Chef's have likened it to "liquorice wine gum" and as being reminiscent of "roast garlic with undertones of malt and molasses". The Washington Post describes it as “slightly sweet...has a licorice twist and a chewy texture. Its garlic flavor and aroma are present but diminished.”
Black Garlic Benefit..Loaded With Antioxidants!
Fermented garlic is not a new thing. Forms of it have long been eaten for its health benefits in Japan and Korea.
Now, here is the really good bit.
Korean researchers found that Black Garlic is loaded with nearly twice as many
disease-fighting antioxidants
as raw garlic and also claim it has twice the health benefits too.
Black-Garlic was found to have more potent antibacterial properties as well as natural compounds (S-Allycysteine) which have been proven to be a factor in
cancer
prevention.
Currently, there are no black garlic dietary supplements on the market, however normal variety capsules are very easy to obtain..but as always, check out the quality of them before you make a purchase.
Black-garlic was rumored to grant immortality in Taoism mythology...ok, sorry we cannot guarantee that, however, it appears to be a great substitute for the normal stuff, and
double the benefits too!
