Eat A Rainbow..The Best Way To Get Your Antioxidants!

eat a rainbow, antioxidants,

Eat a rainbow! Or, look at the colours of the rainbow.

That is the general advice I give people when asked the question..."What are the best places to get antioxidants?"

I get a few puzzled looks.

Let me explain......

Let's start with red. This colour can be found from things like lycopene. For example tomatoes or watermelon.

Want orange? Then you need to look for the pigments from the carotenoid family that are found in mango, cantaloupe and butternut squash.

How about yellow/orange? Go for Sweet potatoes, carrots, butternut squash and pumpkin.

Toss in some dark blue and purple...then you want to be eating berries.

Going green? Try lutein and chlorophyll rich foods such as spinach, broccoli, kale or watercress.

So get in the habit of trying to 'eat-a-rainbow' by incorporating orange, red, green, purple, blue and yellow fruits and vegetables to make sure you are getting a good balanced range of vitamins, minerals, fibre and phytonutrients.

By doing this hopefully you can win the battle against those nasty free radicals.
