Artichoke Health Benefit...A Powerful Free Radical Fighter Packed With Minerals And Nutrients.

Artichoke health benefit has gone virtually unrecognised.

They are quite an amazing vegetable and apparently very high in the vegetable antioxidant league, along with beans and russet potatoes.

Originally from the mediterranean they are now grown commercially in Europe and America.

The flavonoids and polyphenols contained in artichokes leaves are a very potent

antioxidant. Also there is another compound discovered in artichokes called Silymarin. This is thought to have powerful antioxidant properties too, aiding the liver to regenerate healthy tissue.

One large artichoke contains only 25 calories, making it a great food for those of you on a diet...but you are also getting a whopping 16 essential nutrients too. It is also fat free, a good source of vitamin C, folate, magnesium and contains 170 milligrams of potassium.

Oh, and it is high in fibre too, great for regularity and lowering blood pressure.

Artichokes are cholesterol free and low in sodium and high in important minerals making it a top prospect for your 'healthy' shopping list.

Artichokes are thought to improve bile production and secretion and to detox the liver and the skin. I'm thinking a possible contender for the 'superfood' list.

Also try artichoke powder..as this is a powerful antioxidant too.

There are many ways to prepare, cook and eat artichokes so they can be easily introduced into your daily diet.

Next time you are in the supermarket, check out artichokes, and try to make them a regular part of your diet...especially as a low fat diet, a high fibre diet, to reduce the risk of certain types of heart disease, also cancers and possible birth defects.
