The key (or magic) component of turmeric is called curcumin. This is a powerful little substance which boasts antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-amyloid properties.
Curcumin is the compound that gives turmeric its intense yellow colour, and researchers believe that this compound inhibits tumor-promoting enzymes and interferes with the growth of cancerous tumors.
Now, here is the interesting bit about Anti-amyloids. Apparently they stop a protein in your brain (called beta-amyloid) from producing. It is believed to be linked to Alzheimer's disease.
