Camu Camu Fruit...Jam Packed With Vitamin C
Camu Camu is a bush which grows in the Amazonian rain forest of Peru...what's so special about that?
Read on........
The fruit it produces is grape size purplish red with a yellow pulp which is also called Camu-Camu.
High in vitamin C? Sort of. Well actually this fruit is packed with more vitamin C than any other food source so far discovered!
Comparing it to oranges, camu-camu provides thirty times more vitamin C, ten times more iron, three times more niacin, twice as much riboflavin, and 50% more phosphorus.
But... there is more.
This fantasic little fruit contains the following...
- Beta-carotene
- Potassium (711mg per kg of fruit))
- Calcium
- Protein
- Serine
- Thiamin
- Leucine
- Valine
These are powerful phytochemicals and amino acids. Hence plenty of antioxidants to combat those
free radicals.
In addition they also have a surprising range of therapeutic effects.
Sidebar It must be noted that with any vitamin C-rich fruit however, the time between harvesting and consumption is critical... the fruit may lose up to a quarter of its vitamin C content in less than a month, even if it's frozen.
There are claims that camu camu helps in curing viral infections, cold sores, herpes, colds, flu, autoimmune disorders to even weight loss but they are not verified yet.
So don't believe some of the more hyped far-fetched marketing claims that are in the marketplace today. So far the only studied and verified health benefit today regarding camu-camu is based upon its vitamin C content-and not other mysterious chemicals that surround it.
Take home lesson?
Camu-camu is a great source of natural vitamin C. In addition, it comes with lots of other naturally occurring vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that may well aid the absorption and efficient uptake of vitamin C.
